Proactive accounting and advisory for therapists and rehabilitation practices

Working in therapy and running your own practice can be hugely rewarding, but managing your accounts, taxes, and staffing as you grow the business can get exhausting.

We relieve the pressure on therapists and mental health professionals in Tucson and Southern Arizona through proactive accounting and dedicated advisory support.

Is running your practice while juggling the finances becoming unmanageable?

Counseling and rehabilitation services are highly nuanced, and basic accounting often isn’t enough. Plus, making key decisions about your practice’s future, like hiring, expansion, and dealing with insurers, can be tricky if you’re not sure about your numbers.

Despite years of study and earning credentials, most therapists aren’t taught to be business owners. Without the right support and guidance, you can end up being spread too thin.

We understand the business side of running clinical practices. From accounting and tax planning to growth advisory and fractional CFO support, we give you a clearer picture of your finances so you can plan your next moves with confidence.

Testimonials

What our clients say about working with us

Being in private practice initially caused a lot of insecurity due to the unpredictable nature of my taxes every year. I didn’t feel like I was getting ahead financially, and I wasn’t adept at bookkeeping.

I’m a psychologist by training and didn’t learn the ins and outs of being a business owner. Having someone doing my bookkeeping has relieved the biggest stress imaginable and has saved me far more money than it costs.

The other stress reliever was Chad’s guidance in tax savings. I needed someone I could fully trust, and it worked. You’re not just left out there from one tax season to another. You’re in the loop all year round.

I have a great team and feel more financially secure than ever. I used to think I could never afford to retire. Now I look forward to it!

OUR APPROACH

Establish financial foundations to grow your practice with confidence

It starts with understanding your goals, accounting challenges, and pressing business questions, from whether to employ more therapists or buy a property to how to be more tax-efficient.

We review your financials, entity structure, and tax position before laying solid foundations and recommending new systems and processes, replacing complexity with clarity.

At Red Alder, we don’t just sort out your books and hand them off. We break down the figures and what they mean for your practice, and provide in-depth guidance. With reliable numbers, you can make confident decisions about your growing business.

The result:

  • A clearer understanding of your finances and tax position
  • Peace of mind from proactive accounting rather than box-ticking
  • Financial planning support to guide decisions that benefit you and your practice

Scope and Pricing

What affects cost and support?

The scope of your accounting and advisory support needs can vary widely based on how you deliver your services (and your organizational structure).

Whether you provide counseling, physical therapy, rehabilitation or occupational therapy, we learn how you operate and the systems you use, then propose solutions that make sense for your practice.

We’ll estimate the likely costs and show what affects our pricing before you commit to anything.

From self-pay counseling to insurance-based group practices, your business model affects what accounting support you need. We consider your revenue streams, payer mix, and reimbursement complexity when determining scope.

How we turned an imminent tax crisis into a long-term advisory relationship

After fixing a major problem for Liberation Counseling & Consulting, caused by an accountant absconding and failing to file taxes, we soon started an advisory relationship to help the business rebuild and refocus.

The situation had caused a lot of stress, with business owner Atiq feeling (in their own words) out of control, scared, and even incompetent. Our approach was nonjudgmental. We eased their concerns and got things under control before tackling key business matters.

This involved putting together a 6-month plan, which included implementing payroll and operating systems, improving hiring/onboarding, navigating parental leave, and making tough staffing decisions.

They accomplished everything in the plan and now sublet three offices, with each associate having an office. Ultimately, our guidance and support helped Atiq move from working almost entirely in the practice to spending more time on the business.
